Drone Alone is an album of longform ambient instrumentals put together over Christmas 2019 by Dave Lancaster in his home studio.
The two tracks, both exactly 20 minutes long, were released on New Year's Eve just prior to the new decade 2020.
As the album title Drone Alone suggests, all elements were handled in isolation. This includes all writing, instrumentation, recording and production of the album's two drone tracks as well as the cover photography and concept.
New to the world of ambient electronic soundscapes but determined to make something
Inspired by Brian Eno, Vangelis, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jon Hopkins, Nils Frahm, Harold Budd, Rafael Anton Irisarri, Johann Johannsson and anyone else who can transport listeners to somewhere magical and unspoken. ...more
A Fragile Geography takes me someplace else. It washes over me like calming waves until I lose myself in the moment. Rafael Anton Irisarri always makes great drone soundscapes but this is a favourite. Dave Lancaster
No other album I know of blends together such juxtapositions as well as Jon Hopkins' Singularity: The contrasting forces of dance against ambient, loud against quiet, space against noise. Incredible. Dave Lancaster
